The idea for beer club came from my love of beer and my wife’s twice a month book club.  One night I joked that I needed a club and the idea for beer club was born.  Our tagline: “Like book club, but for beer”.  My brother in-law thought it was a good idea so we decided to make it happen.

Details

1. Beer club takes place the 2nd Monday of every month (or something like that) and rotates between beer club members homes.  Meetings start at 7:30PM unless otherwise noted.
2. Each month we focus on one brewery or beer style and try to sample as many beers from that brewery/style as possible.
3. The member hosting the beer club meeting gets to pick the brewery.  The hosting member is also responsible for providing snacks for that meeting.
4. If you’re a member of beer club, expect to host a meeting at some point.

May 2009 (Kevin’s): Abbey of Notre-Dame de Scourmont.  Beers: Red, While, and Blue Chimay.  Attendance: Garrett, Gabe, Steve, Kevin

June 2009 (Justin’s/BSP): Field Trip to Brick Store Pub.  Beers: Gouden Carolus Classic, De Ranke XX Bitter, T’Smisje Catherine The Great.  Attendance: Justin, Kevin, Scotty.

August 2009 (Garrett’s): Dogfish Head Brewery.  Beers: 90 min IPA, Aprihop, Midas Touch, 60min IPA, Sah’tea, Theobroma.  Attendance: Justin, Kevin, Scotty, Steve, Garrett, Brad

October 2009 (Brad’s): Octoberfest/Pumpkin.  Coney Island Freaktoberfest and Dogfish Head Punkin Ale were the two best.  I couldn’t remember the others we tried.  Attendance: Garrett, Kevin, Brad, Cortland.

December 2009 (Steve’s): Winter/Christmas.  Highland Cold Mountain Winter Ale 2008 & 2009, Full Sail – Wassail, Mendacino Brewing- Seasonal IPA, Samuel Adams – Winter Lager, Leinenkugel – Fireside Nut Brown, Delirium Noel, Rogue Santa’s Private Reserve Ale, Samuel Smith Winter Ale Welcome, N’ice Chouffe.  Attendance: Garrett, Kevin, Brad, Steve, Kevin E, Matt L, Josh, Mutz.

February 2010 (Ormsby’s): Field Trip to Ormsby’s.  Sierra Nevada Glissade, St. Bernardus 12, and others.  Attendance: Garrett, Kevin, Matt L, Gabe, Cortland.

March 2010 (Garrett’s): Porters/Stouts.  Founders Porter, Stone Smoked Porter, Yeti Imperial Stout, Highland Black Mocha Porter, Left Hand Black Jack Porter, Samuel Smith Imperial Stout, Samuel Smith Taddy Porter, Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout, Youngs Double Chocolate Stout, and maybe a few others.  Attendance: Kevin, Garrett, Jim, and numerous others (I forgot!).

June 2010 (Kevin’s): IPA’s. Lagunitas Hop Stoopid, Mikkeller 1000, Bell’s Two Hearted Ale, Lagunitas Maximus, New Belgium Ranger IPA, Fort Collins Rocky Mountain IPA, Red Hook Long Hammer IPA, Flying Dog Snake Dog IPA, Great Divide Hercules Double IPA.  Attendance: Kevin, Garrett, Myron, Brad, and others (I forgot again!).

September 2010 (Cortland’s): Oktoberfest.  Paulaner Oktoberfest Marzen, Brooklyn Oktoberfest, New Belgium Hoptober, Breckenridge Autumn Ale, Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale, Red Brick Oktobeerfest.  Attendance: Cortland, Brad, Kevin, Garrett.

November 2010 (Brad’s): Belgian.  St. Bernardus 12, Urthel Triple, Gulden Draak, Corsendonk Christmas, McChouffe, Corsendonk Abbey Brown Ale, Affligem Dubbel, Allagash White, Hop - Ruiter.  Attendance: Cortland, Brad, Kevin, Garrett, Matt
